Your Bladder and Coffee- Does it matter?

A woman drinking coffee thinking about coffee and bladder health

Your bladder and coffee- does it matter? Yes and no.

For me, it is super important to wake up before my kids, go to kitchen, and drink two cups of coffee solo, in a quiet place.  Without that, ask my husband- I am NOT a nice person.

These two cups of coffee, are pretty much non-negotiable for me.

I accept that because I drink all that morning caffeinated goodness I will have to go urinate frequently, I am okay with that.

What should you do?

Well it is up to you.  If you drink those two cups of coffee, then go to the bathroom 5-8 times in a 2 hour period that might be disruptive.  Or if you are going to an exercise class, that may make your urge and leakage worse.

But what if you switched to half caffeinated/ half decaffeinated?  Or drank your coffee earlier/ moved your gym class to later?

Diuretics are bladder irritants, the top irritants are caffeine, soda, alcohol, sweetened tea.  It is not about eliminating them, but modifying in such a way that it doesn’t detrimentally affect your life and pelvic health symptoms.

Make sense? Yes- great!  No, not sure, maybe, or have more questions?!  . . . contact me!
